What an incredible game. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith started his first season opener since 2014, and needless to say, he couldn’t have asked for a better start to his campaign as QB1 in Seattle. Smith came out firing and looked in charge of the offense from the opening snap. At the end of the second quarter, he had a single incompletion and had already led the team on three scoring drives. Literally, this was the best first half of football Geno Smith has ever played as a pro.

He wasted absolutely no time in engineering a touchdown drive to start the game, and was on a tear throughout the entire first half; he finished a ridiculous 17 of 18 for 164 and a pair of touchdowns.
WHAT JUST HAPPENED!! GENE SMITH ESCAPES THE BAG AND THROWS FOR A TD!!! WOW!!!’ #SEAWAYS

Geno Smith has just one incompletion through most of the first half.

Geno Smith, playing before the 12s as the first post-Russian QB, is 12 for 12 passing.

Geno Smith 17 for 18, 164 yards, 2 touchdowns, sterling passer rating of 141.7 (perfect is 158.3).
Beyond the numbers, he appears in complete command. Far from just “managing” Seahawks, avoiding risk. Crucial runs and throws. A touch passes. darts A blast for him so far

The second half proved to be much tougher on the offense as a whole, but Smith continued to play a great game. Aside from the Metcalf fumble, he was able to move the offense and wasn’t afraid to mix it up when he had to. He mostly took what he could get and showed good pocket presence during a game that featured a completely rebuilt offensive line – starting two rookie tackles!
Bradley Chubb with a strip sack of Geno Smith that is recovered in midair by Charles Cross. Chubb was a big challenge for Cross in his first start.
Seattle pitches for the first time tonight.

Let’s just say… TV announcers haven’t exactly been subtle in their feelings towards Russell Wilson. We don’t need to live, so I’ll limit it to this:
nice to finally have a QB where the OC can use the full playbook

Finally, Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks pulled off a significant upset over Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncosand that is something we can all celebrate.
Here comes the “Gene! Gene! Gene!” sings again
