AFL ROUND 15 FIXTURE AND TEAMS (All times AEST)

MELBOURNE v BRISBANE LIONS

Thursday June 23, 7:20pm at the MCG

Demons’ Round 13 team

B: C.Salem, H.Petty, J.Bowey

HB: J.Jordon, J.Lever, A.Brayshaw

C: T.Sparrow, A.Neal-Bullen, E.Langdon

HF: M.Brown, B.fritsch, C.Petracca

F: C.Spargo, B.Brown, K.Pickett

FOLL: M.Gawn, C.Oliver, J.Viney

I/C: J.Harmes, L.Jackson, M.Hibberd, D.Turner

EMG: K.Chandler (sub), A.Tomlinson, S.Weideman, O.Baker

Team Tips: Melbourne will finally welcome back their troublemaking defensive superstar Steven May this week after he missed the last two games, and most of the Round 11 clash, due to concussion and a club-imposed suspension for that wild night at a French restaurant with teammates. The backline has looked decidedly vulnerable without him in the line-up and, no coincidence, the Demons have lost their last three matches. It’s further proof of just how important May is to the side. May’s ‘dancing partner’ from that infamous night in the trendy Melbourne suburb of Prahran, Jake Melksham, could also be in consideration for a return after overcoming a couple of bouts of minor surgery to repair the hand he used to punch May during their altercation. But the hits keep on coming for the Demons with inspirational captain Max Gawn ruled out for up to a month with an ankle injury, while his potential replacement Majak Daw is also unavailable for a similar period of time due to a pectoral injury sustained while playing in the VFL. And with key forward Tom McDonald (ankle), who is capable of pinch-hitting, still unavailable for another three months or so, it looks as though young star Luke Jackson will take on the bulk of the ruck load, perhaps with Ben Brown and/or Sam Weideman lending some support. Daniel Turner will also make way after requiring surgery to repair facial fractures sustained in his debut game on Queen’s Birthday.

Steven May set to return from suspension | 01:05

Lions’ Round 13 team

B: D.Gardiner, H.Andrews, M.Adams

HB: B.Starcevich, D.Rich, D.Zorko

C: J.Berry, Z.Bailey, H.McCluggage

HF: C.Rayner, E.Hipwood, L.McCarthy

F: D.McStay, J.Daniher, C.Cameron

FOLL: O.McInerney, J.Lyons, L.Neale

I/C: D.Robertson, M.Robinson, K.Coleman, N.Answerth

EMG: J.Prior, D.Fort (sub), J.Tunstill, R.Mathieson

Team Tips: The Lions have close to a full list to choose from for their blockbuster top-of-the-table clash with the Demons outside of two injury blows in their win over St Kilda a fortnight ago. Key defender Darcy Gardiner comesout as he continues to recover from a lung injury which will keep him sidelined for about another month, while captain Dayne Zorko has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. One of Jack Payne or Ryan Lester would seem like a logical replacement for Gardiner, and Nakia Cockatoo or Rhys Mathieson might get the call up for Zorko.

WESTERN BULLDOGS v HAWTHORN

Friday June 24, 7:00pm at Marvel Stadium

Bulldogs’ Round 14 team

B: E.Richards, R.Gardner, T.O’Brien

HB: C.Daniel, A.Keath, B.Dale

C: B.Williams, J.Macrae, A.Scott

HF: J.Johannisen, J.Ugle-Hagan, T.Liberatore

F: M.Bontempelli, A.Naughton, C.Weightman

FOLL: T.English, J.Dunkley, A.Treloar

I/C: R.West, T.Duryea, R.McComb, J.Schache

EMG: M.Wallis, H.Crozier, B.Khamis, L.McNeil (sub)

Team Tips: The Bulldogs have also been hit hard by injury with No.1 ruckman Tim English set for another stint on the sidelines, this time due to concussion, while defender Taylor Duryea won’t be available either after he suffered a serious knee injury against GWS last week. He might not be available again until the finals. Small forward Cody Weightman showed incredible bravery to return to the field of play against the Giants after sustaining a gruesome dislocated elbow, but it would be surprising to see him line up again this week, despite being cleared of structural damage. And, of course, Bailey Smith still has another three games of his suspension(s) to serve. Jordon Sweet would be the frontrunner to replace English, but Stefan Martin (shoulder) will be tested and could serve as a like-for-like replacement. Hayden Crozier is an option to replace Duryea, while premiership star Lachie Hunter could come in for Weightman, should he be ruled out, after returning strongly from personal leave in the reserves last week. Mitch Hannan (concussion) could also be an option. Key forward Josh Bruce made a successful return from a knee injury via the VFL last week, kicking three goals, but will probably need to spend another week or two in the second tier before being considered for senior selection. Another knee victim Toby McLean will also return via the VFL this week in another positive development for the Dogs.

Hawks’ Round 13 team

B: B.Hardwick, S.Frost, J.Sicily

HB: J.Scrimshaw, K.Hartigan, L.Bramble

C: L.Shiels, J.Newcombe, W.Day

HF: C.Nash, J.Callow, J.O’Meara

F: S.Butler, J.Koschitzke, D.Moore

FOLL: N.Reeves, T.Mitchell, C.Wingard

I/C: H.Morrison, L.Breust, D.Howe, C.Jiath

EMG: C.Macdonald, F.Maginness, J.Morris (sub), J.Blanck

Team Tips: The Hawks’ forward line is set to receive a huge boost with Jack Gunston (foot) and Mitch Lewis (knee) both looking likely to return for the clash with the Dogs. Ruckman Max Lynch (concussion) will be tested, but Hawthorn received a big blow down back with Sam Frost (knee) ruled out for the next month after getting injured against the Dockers in Round 13. Youngster Denver Grainger-Barras might get a reprieve to cover for Frost. Josh Ward (concussion), James Worpel, Connor Macdonald and mid-season recruit James Blanck are all in the mix as well.

WEST COAST EAGLES v ESSENDON

Friday June 24, 8:40pm at Optus Stadium

Eagles’ Round 14 team

B: S.Hurn, T.Barrass, L.Duggan

HB: J.Jones, J.McGovern, B.Hough

C: A.Gaff, J.Nelson, J.Redden

HF: D.Sheed, J.Darling, J.Waterman

F: J.Cripps, J.Kennedy, W.Rioli

FOLL: B.Williams, E.Yeo, L.Shuey

I/C: J.Petruccelle, R.Bazzo, C.West, C.Jamieson

EMG: A.Witherden, L.Foley, G.Clark (sub)

Team Tips:Jeremy McGovern’s rotten run with injury has continued after the star defender suffered broken ribs during the Eagles’ loss to Geelong last week. It was his second game in a row in which he found himself subbed out, in what was his return game after suffering nerve pain in his back against the Bulldogs in Round 11. Harry Edwards or Josh Rotham will likely replace McGovern. But West Coast are set to be boosted by the returns of Tim Kelly and Liam Ryan from illness and champion ruckman Nic Naitanui (knee) isn’t far away from a return either. Sam Petrevski-Seton, Alex Witherden and Luke Foley could also be in the mix for a senior recall while young midfielder Xavier O’Neill will return via the WAFL after spending two months out with a knee injury.

Bombers’ Round 14 team

B: J.Kelly, J.Ridley, J.Laverde

HB: M.Redman, D.Heppell, N.Hind

C: N.Martin, Z.Merrett, A.McGrath

HF: A.Perkins, M.Guelfi, M.D’Ambrosio

F: J.Stringer, P.Wright, H.Jones

FOLL: S.Draper, D.Shiel, S.Durham

I/C: B.Ham, J.Caldwell, B.Hobbs, A.Phillips

EMG: J.Stewart (sub), B.Zerk-Thatcher, A.Waterman, T.Cutler

Team Tips: After making a strong return to the senior line-up against St Kilda last week, Andrew McGrath is frustratingly set for more time on the sidelines after injuring his adductor in the Bombers‘ upset six-goal win. But they could regain star midfielder Darcy Parish (calf) while young defender Zach Reid will be tested after hurting his ankle in the VFL last week. James Stewart’s return to the side has been delayed again after he too got injured in the reserves, a foot complaint to keep him sidelined for at least a fortnight. Key Bombers Kyle Langford and Will Snelling made their returns via the VFL last week after long injury layoffs, but it remains to be seen whether they will be considered for senior selection after just one game each.

CARLTON v FREMANTLE

Saturday June 25, 1:45pm at Marvel Stadium

Blues’ Round 14 team

B: A.Saad, Le.Young, L.Plowman

HB: N.Newman, S.Durdin, S.Docherty

C: M.Cottrell, P.Cripps, L.O’Brien

HF: J.Martin, C.Curnow, M.Owies

F: Z.Fisher, H.McKay, J.Silvagni

FOLL: T.DeKoning, S.Walsh, M.Kennedy

I/C: J.Boyd, G.Hewett, J.Newnes, C.Durdin

EMG: P.Dow, L.Fogarty (sub), W.Setterfield, B.Kemp

Team Tips: The carnage continues down at Princes Park and new recruit Sam Durdin (knee) isn’t even immune, the mid-season pick-up injuring himself in his club debut against Richmond and joining a long list of defenders who are now unavailable for the Blues. Jack Martin (calf) also hurt himself against the Tigers, and is in doubt to face Fremantle. Brodie Kemp will probably have to come in for Durdin while last week’s sub Lachie Fogarty will be on standby if Martin fails to come up.

Dockers’ Round 14 team

B: H.Young, A.Pearce, G.Logue

HB: B.Cox, L.Ryan, B.Walker

C: B.Acres, A.Brayshaw, J.Clark

HF: S.Switkowski, B.Banfield, T.Colyer

F: N.Fyfe, R.Lobb, M.Walters

FOLL: S.Darcy, J.Aish, C.Serong

I/C: D.Mundy, W.Brodie, L.Schultz, E.Hughes

EMG: J.Treacy, D.Tucker (sub), M.Crowden, L.Meek

Team Tips: There’ll be a few tweaks to the forward mix with Sam Switkowski (back) and Josh Treacy (ankle) joining the injury list, but Michael Frederick confirmed to return from his club-imposed suspension for drinking on a six-day break. He could be joined by Matt Taberner, which would help really stretch an injury-stricken Carlton defence, after the key forward kicked 3.2 for Peel Thunder during the bye. Darcy Tucker shapes as the most likely wing replacement for Blake Acres (hamstring) given he has played there this season, both at AFL and WAFL level, with Liam Henry also an option. Neil Erasmus was best-on for Peel last weekend.

GEELONG CATS v RICHMOND

Saturday June 25, 4:35pm at the MCG

Cats’ Round 14 team

B: T.Stewart, S.De Koning, T.Atkins

HB: J.Bews, M.Blicavs, Z.Guthrie

C: M.Duncan, C.Guthrie, I.Smith

HF: Z.Tuohy, J.Cameron, C.Stephens

F: B.Close, T.Hawkins, T.Stengle

FOLL: R.Stanley, S.Menegola, J.Selwood

I/C: J.Kolodjashnij, M.O’Connor, L.Dahlhaus, G.Miers

EMG: S.Higgins, F.Evans (sub), O.Dempsey, S.Neale

Team Tips: The Cats look set to receive an influx of key players this week, headlined by Paddy Dangerfield after the Brownlow medallist spent the past five weeks recovering from a calf injury. Forward Gary Rohan (COVID) is also in line for a recall and in more good news for Geelong, Jack Henry and Max Holmes made successful returns in the VFL last week and are expected to face the Tigers as well. Henry (foot) hasn’t played since Round 5, while Holmes (ankle) has been unsighted at senior level since Round 7. Shaun Higgins (soreness) is also available while, in another positive development, big man Esava Ratugolea played in the VFL last weekend too.

Tigers’ Round 14 team

B: N.Broad, D.Grimes, R.Tarrant

HB: L.Baker, N.Vlastuin, J.Gibcus

C: M.Pickett, J.Short, K.McIntosh

HF: J.Clarke, K.Lambert, H.Ralphsmith

F: J.Riewoldt, S.Bolton, T.Lynch

FOLL: T.Nankervis, D.Prestia, T.Cotchin

I/C: D.Rioli, S.Edwards, J.Graham, N.Balta

EMG: I.Soldo, R.Mansell, J.Ross, M.Rioli (sub)

Team Tips: The Tigers are set to regain a Brownlow medallist of their own with Dustin Martin set to be available after missing last week’s clash against the Blues due to the flu. But Richmond copped a triple blow against Carlton with Noah Balta (hamstring) and Trent Cotchin (collarbone) ruled out and Robbie Tarrant (hand) needing to pass a fitness test after undergoing minor surgery earlier in the week. Ivan Soldo looms as the logical replacement for Balta, while Ben Miller could get the job in defence if Tarrant is ruled out.

SYDNEY SWANS v ST KILDA

Saturday June 25, 7:25pm at the SCG

Swans’ Round 14 team

B: P.McCartin, T.McCartin, J.McInerney

HB: O.Florent, D.Rampe, J.Lloyd

C: H.Cunningham, L.Parker, N.Blakey

HF: W.Hayward, S.Reid, C.Warner

F: L.McDonald, L.Franklin, T.Papley

FOLL: P.Ladhams, C.Mills, I.Heeney

I/C: C.O’Riordan, J.Rowbottom, E.Gulden, S.Wicks

EMG: R.Fox, B.Campbell (sub), J.Amartey, D.Stephens

Team Tips: No.1 ruck Tom Hickey’s successful return from a toe injury in the VFL last week couldn’t have come at a better time after back-up ruckman Peter Ladhams’ brain snap, which saw him suspended for punching Port star Ollie Wines in the midriff during last weekend’s game at Adelaide Oval. There were several Swans down on form against Port to come at risk at selection, with Ben Ronke (19 disposals, three goals, 12 marks), Joel Amartey (18 touches, five goals, 10 marks), Ryan Clarke (27 disposals, two goals), Dylan Stephens (22 touches, six marks, six tackles) and Hayden McLean (19 touches, 1.4, 12 marks) all putting their hands up after strong VFL outings.

Ladhams will learn from ‘brain snap’ | 01:19

Saints’ Round 14 team

B: C.Wilkie, D.Howard, J.Battle

HB: B.Paton, J.Webster, J.Sinclair

C: H.Clark, S.Ross, B.Hill

HF: J.Billings, B.Long, R.Marshall

F: T.Membrey, M.King, J.Higgins

FOLL: P.Ryder, B.Crouch, J.Gresham

I/C: D.Butler, R.Byrnes, N.Wanganeen-Milera, Z.Jones

EMG: M.Windhager (sub), C.Sharman, D.Joyce, M.Wood

Team Tips: The Saints are set to welcome back superstar Jack Steele after the captain spent the past six weeks sidelined with a shoulder injury, while Dan McKenzie is also on track to return from a concussion. However, Mitch Owens remains in concussion protocols and is unlikely to make the trip to the SCG. Marcus Windhager, Jarrod Lienert, Cooper Sharman and Darragh Joyce are in the mix after strong VFL performances.

NORTH MELBOURNE v ADELAIDE CROWS

Sunday June 26, 1:10pm at Blundstone Arena

Kangaroos’ Round 13 team

B: L.McDonald, A.Corr, La.Young

HB: K.Hayden, J.Walker, K.Turner

C: A.Hall, L.Davies-Uniacke, F.Perez

HF: J.Horne-Francis, N.Larkey, P.Curtis

F: J.Stephenson, J.Ziebell, C.Taylor

FOLL: T.Goldstein, J.Simpkin, J.Anderson

I/C: B.Scott, H.Greenwood, T.Powell, T.Xerri

EMG: A.Bosenavulagi, T.Thomas, J.Archer, C.Lazzaro (sub)

Team Tips:Jack Ziebell (facial fracture), Jason-Horne Francis and Lachie Young (both suspended) all come out of the side as forced changes from the Roos’ loss to to the Giants in Round 13. But luckily help is the on the way, and valuable help of that, with Ben McKay (concussion)and Cam Zurhaar (foot) expected to return. North is also coming off a VFL bye could be tempted to recall Tarryn Thomas, while Charlie Lazzaro will be in the mix. Jaidyn Stephenson’s spot will again come into question after recording just five touches against GWS a fortnight ago.

Roos back young star after criticism | 01:47

Crows’ Round 14 team

B: T.Doedee, J.Butts, N.Murray

HB: B.Smith, W.Hamill, J.Dawson

C: J.Hately, B.Keays, J.Soligo

HF: W.Milera, D.Fogarty, J.Rowe

F: S.McAdam, T.Walker, J.Rachele

FOLL: R.O’Brien, R.Laird, S.Berry

I/C: R.Thilthorpe, N.McHenry, M.Crouch, P.Parnell

EMG: H.Schoenberg, M.Hinge, L.Murphy (sub), E.Himmelberg

Team Tips:Riley Thilthorpe was subbed out of the loss to the Suns but could yet get up to face the Roos. If the former Pick 2 misses, Lachlan Gollant (three goals) is probably the favourite to replace him after a strong VFL outing, while Fischer McAsey and Elliott Himmelberg will also be in contention. Kieran Strachan (20 disposals two goals, 13 marks, 34 hitouts) had a monster game in the seconds but unfortunately probably stays out of the side, while Harry Schoenberg has been banging down the door for weeks in the SANFL and had enough strong performance with 27 touches. Will Hamill, Josh Rachele and Wayne Milera appear to be the Crows most at risk of coming out of the side after a lop-sided loss to Gold Coast.

COLLINGWOOD v GWS GIANTS

Sunday June 26, 3:20pm at the MCG

Magpies’ Round 13 team

B: B.Maynard, D.Moore, N.Murphy

HB: S.Pendlebury, J.Howe, I.Quaynor

C: W.Hoskin-Elliott, P.Lipinski, J.Noble

HF: J.Crisp, B.Mihocek, J.De Goey

F: J.Ginnivan, O.Henry, S.Sidebottom

FOLL: D.Cameron, T.Adams, J.Daicos

I/C: J.Elliott, B.McCreery, N.Daicos, M.Cox

EMG: T.Brown (sub), F.Macrae, T.Ruscoe, I.Chugg

Team Tips: The big question is whether or not Jordan De Goey plays in the fallout from his Bali controversy. The star midfielder/forward hasn’t yet returned to training after the club’s bye, also absent from Wednesday’s session. It now looms likely that despite De Goey receiving no formal games suspension by the club or AFL, he’ll sit out Sunday’s clash with GWS. Last week’s medical sub Tyler Brown would be the frontrunner to come into the 22, while Callum Brown, Finlay McRae and Caleb Poulter will also be in the mix. But you’d think in a perfect world the Pies would’ve gone unchanged after their bye Queen’s Birthday win over the Demons.

Magpies condemn De Goey for Bali trip | 02:16

Giants’ Round 14 team

B: C.Idun, S.Taylor, I.Cumming

HB: A.Kennedy, L.Keeffe, C.Ward

C: J.Riccardi, T.Green, J.Peatling

HF: S.Coniglio, H.Himmelberg, L.Whitfield

F: Z.Sproule, J.Hogan, T.Greene

FOLL: B.Preuss, J.Kelly, L.Ash

I/C: J.Wehr, T.Bruhn, R.Angwin, N.Haynes

EMG: J.Brander (sub), C.Hamilton, X.O’Halloran

Team Tips: It was injury carnage for the Giants last week as Braydon Preuss (ankle), Ryan Angwin (leg) and James Peatling (hamstring) were all struck down, while the former also copped a one-match ban for a dangerous on Tim English that left the Dogs ruckman with a delayed concussion, and Matt Flynn (quad) was a late out and will miss several weeks. It likely leaves Kieren Briggs to come in for his first game of the season and handle number one ruck duties. The Giants should also boosted by the returns of Tim Taranto (32 disposals, seven marks) and Phil Davis (24 disposals, 17 marks) after both players impressed in their returns from injury via the VFL.

PORT ADELAIDE v GOLD COAST SUNS

Sunday June 26, 4:10pm at Adelaide Oval

Power’s Round 14 team

B: T.Jonas, A.Aliir, D.Houston

HB: R.Burton, T.Clurey, D.Byrne-Jones

C: K.Amon, W.Drew, K.Farrell

HF: Z.Butters, T.Marshall, C.Rozee

F: J.Finlayson, C.Dixon, S.Powell-Pepper

FOLL: B.Teakle, O.Wines, J.Mead

I/C: M.Georgiades, R.Bonner, L.Jones, M.Frederick

EMG: X.Duursma (sub), S.Mayes, T.Schofield, J.Burgoyne

Team Tips: The Power suffered a double injury blow to Zak Butters and Bryn Teakle against Sydney in an otherwise positive performance for Ken Hinkley’s side. Travis Boak should return for from Covid protocols, while Sam Hayes might earn a reprieve in the number one ruck role after registering 37 hitouts in the SANFL. Or Port could just back in the Charlie Dixon-Jeremy Finlayson tandem and play smaller. Last week’s medical sub Xavier Duursma could come into the 22 after a strong showing after coming into the game for Butters, and Robbie Gray is no certainty to return as he manages a knee complaint he’s carried all season. Steven Motlop (27 touches, two goals) and Sam Mayes (32 disposals) also impressed in the SANFL to put their hands up for senior selection, while Trent Dumont (calf) and Orazio Fantasia (quad) are listed as tests in their returns from their respective injuries.

Suns’ Round 14 team

B: S.Lemmens, S.Collins, C.Graham

HB: J.Farrar, C.Ballard, W.Powell

C: C.Budarick, N.Anderson, B.Ellis

HF: B.Ainsworth, M.Chol, N.Holman

F: I.Rankine, L.Casboult, J.Jeffrey

FOLL: J.Witts, M.Rowell, T.Miller

I/C: A.Davies, S.Flanders, O.Markov, D.Swallow

EMG: J.Bowes (sub), S.Day, E.Hollands, D.Macpherson

Team Tips: Last week’s win over Adelaide was soured by injury setbacks to Will Powell (ankle) and Joel Jeffrey, while Connor Budarick (knee) has been listed as a test. Although the much-improved Suns have the depth to cover it, with Rory Atkins (36 touches, 11 marks), Brayden Fiorni (32 disposals, one goal) and Chris Burgess (six goals) all coming off big VFL outings. Elijah Hollands is also surely not far from making his AFL debut, while Malcolm Rosas should be fit to return from illness.
